Askari Metals (ASX:AS2) drills into gold territory on the Arabian-Nubian Shield

While the market spotlight remains fixed on lithium and uranium, Askari Metals (ASX:AS2) has quietly staked a compelling claim in the world’s least explored gold frontier: Ethiopia’s Arabian-Nubian Shield.

Having completed technical due diligence at its soon-to-be-acquired Nejo Gold and Copper Project, Askari is now poised to advance exploration across an underexplored, district-scale tenure that shares geological DNA with multi-million-ounce deposits.

Highlights:

  • Due diligence completed on 1,174km² Nejo Project in Ethiopia, subject to shareholder approval

  • Project surrounds Kefi’s 1.7Moz Tulu Kapi mine and lies on same belt as Allied Gold’s 3.4Moz Kurmuk deposit

  • Drill-ready targets confirmed at Guji, Komto 1 and Komto 2, with shallow high-grade gold mineralisation

  • Soil and rock sampling programs locked in across Guji-Gudeya and Guliso gold trends

  •  Airborne geophysics and copper exploration at the Katta target underway

As Executive Director Gino D’Anna puts it, Askari is “exploring in the land of giants,” where the surrounding terrain hosts some of the region’s largest gold operations.

“The due diligence underpinned our belief that with modern exploration, the full potential and value of these areas can be unlocked,” D’Anna said.

Nejo isn’t a greenfields play, it is a brownfields project with a trail of historical trenching, drilling, rock sampling and geophysics pointing to a string of high-grade opportunities.

The project is located just 520km from the capital Addis Ababa, with sealed road access and proximity to both a workforce and logistics infrastructure.

Askari Metals strategy is refreshingly straightforward: digitise existing data, validate high-potential targets, and move to a maiden JORC-compliant resource.

Initial drilling will hone in on the Guji-Gudeya Gold Trend, where past exploration revealed high grades over a 9km NE-SW strike length that remains open in both directions.

Meanwhile, the Guliso Trend’s 10km strike, peppered with gold hits at Soyoma, Dina and Chago, remains virtually untouched by modern exploration.

Add in the copper upside at Katta, and the company has its hands full.

Crucially, Ethiopia is a jurisdiction on the rise, underpinned by a modern mining code and growing foreign investment. Askari is not flying in blind.

It has boots on the ground and an experienced African exploration team already engaging local stakeholders, opening an office and embedding community relations into the project DNA.

“For Askari, the acquisition of the Nejo project presents more than an opportunity to expand our African exploration focus, but establishes a foundation for the Company to make a significant discovery and build a tier-1 gold portfolio in Ethiopia,” D’Anna said.

In a belt hosting Sukari (11Moz), Jabal Sayid (30Mt Cu), and Bisha (67Mt polymetallic), the Arabian-Nubian Shield is due its next chapter—and Askari may have just picked up the pen.
