Altech (ASX:ATC) secure Cerenegy supply
July 3, 2023Altech Batteries has confirmed the suppliers for its Cerenegy battery plant, bringing in a collection of new partners with extensive technological and manufacturing expertise as it begins to finalise the designs of a battery plant in the German state of Saxony.
All key suppliers attended and presented their designs alongside Altech personnel and JV partner Fraunhofer’s battery team at Critical Expert workshops headed and presented by Altech Managing Director Iggy Tan, in town at Fraunhofer’s Dresden facilities as the partners continue to charge towards the project’s Definitive Feasibility Study.
All design areas are focused on high levels of automation and robotics and one secured supplier, Frey Systeme GmbH, showed an advanced robotic isostatic pressing machine capable of producing tube components at an outstanding 45 seconds a piece.
Altech Managing Director Iggy Tan said the level of excellence exhibited by the assembled German suppliers was truly remarkable.
“They possess extensive expertise in manufacturing plants that prioritise automation and robotics as essential components of the design. Our objective is to manufacture battery cells from the ground up, encompassing the production of ceramic solid-state tubes, full cell assembly, and conducting quality and battery performance checks at a rate of one every 45 seconds,” Mr Tan said.
“We have made substantial progress in our design endeavours and are currently transitioning towards obtaining the final cost estimates for the plant. Given our exclusive rights to this technology, all our design efforts will pave the way for our future success,” he added.
The Cerenegy Battery
While Iggy Tan’s name is renowned in the lithium game, Cerenegy batteries could potentially disrupt the massive lithium-ion industry, presenting a game-changing alternative of a long-life, environmentally resistant grid storage system produced using simple table salt and independent of the critical mineral supply chain.
With no need for lithium, cobalt, graphite, or copper, the Cerenegy batteries are expected to be drastically less expensive, with the upcoming Definitive Feasibility Study expected to confirm a discount of as much as 40 per cent or higher.
And Altech’s plans are now locked in on a 100 MWh SCSS battery plant on its land in Saxony, producing ABS60 battery packs to meet Europe’s growing demands of renewable energy and grid storage.
