Altech (ASX:ATC) power up ‘game changing’ blueprint

May 9, 2023 0 By Rueben Hale

Altech Batteries is moving production forward, with two final market 60KWh battery pack prototypes now being fabricated at its JV partner’s facilities in Hermsdorf, Germany.

Destined for the renewable energy and grid storage markets, the mega battery pack boasts a rated operating voltage of 600 volts at 100 amp and has been engineered to ensure complete protection from external environments.

“We have built a dynamic and fast moving project team incorporating personnel from Altech, Fraunhofer and various leading German engineering companies and industrial contractors,” Managing Director Iggy Tan said.

The advancements made on the final designs of the 60 KWh Battery Pack in such a short time frame are outstanding. I am very pleased with the progress.”

After completion, the battery packs will be available for testing at customer premises and be submitted to extreme cycling tests, with simulations indicating the batteries can maintain stable internal temperatures without overheating – in harsh desert conditions up to 60 degrees Celsius.

It is the next milestone on a potentially game-changing alternative to the lithium-ion battery, sitting outside of supply chain concerns with no trace of lithium, cobalt, graphite, or copper.

And The Altech-Fraunhofer joint venture is underway on commercialising a 100MHh per annum SCSS battery plant, set to produce the uniquely stackable plug-and-play GridPacks, which the companies see as being evident among a globally firing battery storage industry.
