Alara Resources has reported that its Al Wash-hi Majaza Copper Mine and concentrator in Oman are now operating above nameplate capacity on a sustained basis, marking a key operational milestone following earlier commissioning challenges.

The update reflects performance across both mining and processing operations, with financial year to date output exceeding designed throughput levels and reinforcing the project’s transition into steady state production.

Highlights

  • Mine production +6.4% above nameplate on a FYTD basis
  • Concentrator production +6.1% above nameplate on a FYTD basis
  • Sustained production above nameplate capacity achieved over a three month period
  • Shipment 38 prepared at Sohar Port, awaiting revised dispatch timing
  • FY26 production projected to exceed 40,000 WMT of copper concentrate

The operational update centres on the Al Wash-hi Majaza project, which is operated through Alara’s 51% owned joint venture vehicle, Al Hadeetha Resources LLC.

The company states that both the mine and concentrator have delivered a six month average above nameplate capacity over the past three months, a benchmark that signals the completion of ramp up and the establishment of stable operating conditions.

This outcome follows earlier commissioning constraints, specifically relating to tailings filter press issues, which have now been resolved.

With these constraints addressed, the operation is demonstrating consistent monthly output above design levels, supported by coordination across mining, processing, maintenance and technical teams.

From a production standpoint, both ore extraction and concentrate output are exceeding design levels, with FYTD mine production measured in wet metric tonnes +6.4% above nameplate and concentrate production +6.1% above nameplate.

The company has indicated a projected FY26 output in excess of 40,000 WMT of copper concentrate, providing a clear reference point for near term production scale.

The shipping update provides additional context around realised production. Parcel 38, comprising 1389 WMT of copper gold concentrate, has been delivered to Sohar Port and contains approximately 272 MT of copper and 96 Oz of gold.

An estimated vessel dispatch date of 18 March had previously been provided for this shipment, however this has been postponed pending further notice due to ongoing regional uncertainty, with the company working alongside Sohar Port authorities and shipping companies to secure revised timing.

Managing Director Atmavireshwar Sthapak framed the milestone in operational terms, stating:

“Reaching and surpassing nameplate capacity is a testament to the dedication, expertise, and collaboration of our entire team. This milestone not only demonstrates the strength of our operations but also reinforces our confidence in the long-term potential of our flagship Al Wash-hi Majaza Copper project. We remain focused on maintaining consistent performance, optimizing efficiencies, and delivering sustainable value for our stakeholders.”

The broader implication is that Alara has moved beyond commissioning variability into a phase characterised by stable throughput and repeatable operating performance.

Sustained production above nameplate capacity over multiple months reflects plant reliability and integrated operational coordination following earlier commissioning challenges.

Looking ahead, the company’s focus remains on maintaining consistent production performance, optimising efficiencies across the operation, and progressing concentrate shipments as logistics allow.

Within its broader portfolio of Omani assets, Al Wash-hi Majaza remains the central producing asset, supported by ongoing exploration across multiple licences in the region.
